IMF and Zambia Host the Sixth African Fiscal Forum in Lusaka

February 9, 2018

The International Monetary Fund hosted together with the Zambian Ministry of Finance the Sixth African Fiscal Forum in Lusaka, Zambia, on February 8–9, 2018.

The previous five fora were held in South Africa (2011, 2013), Senegal (2015), Uganda (2016), and Cameroon (2017).

The Lusaka event sponsored by the EU Commission brought together officials from the finance ministries of about 30 African countries and was an opportunity to engage on fiscal challenges facing the region.

The Forum was opened by the Zambian Minister of Finance, Mr. Felix Mutati and focused on fiscal policy in an evolving world. Presentations were made by a range of country officials as well as representatives from the EU and the IMF. Topics included challenges associated with taxation of multinational companies; the digital revolution and its implications for fiscal policy; medium-term revenue strategies; and inequality and fiscal policy.
