As part of the Boao Forum for Asia 2025, held in Hainan, China, Ambassador Carlos Vasquez, Chair of the APEC Peru 2024 Senior Officials' Meeting, presented the results of Peruvian leadership at the most important economic forum in the Asia-Pacific region.

The diplomat emphasized the restoration of consensus among member economies and the unanimous adoption of 20 deliverables, achievements that position Peru as a key player in dialogue and international cooperation.

During the panel "Revitalizing APEC: Meeting Challenges and Sharing Opportunities Together," held on Wednesday, Vasquez highlighted initiatives set to have a positive impact on Peruvian citizens, such as the implementation of the Declaration on a New Vision for the Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific and the Lima Roadmap, aimed at facilitating the transition to a more formal and inclusive economy.

Another significant milestone was the Policy Guide for the Development of Low-Emission Hydrogen, which promotes sustainable solutions and opens new opportunities in energy innovation, paving the way for a cleaner and more modern economy.

The progress achieved under Peru's chairmanship was recognized by senior officials from New Zealand, South Korea, and Singapore, who highlighted the value of this legacy for the upcoming APEC presidencies of South Korea in 2025 and the People's Republic of China in 2026.

Thus, in this forum, which gathers more than 2,000 experts from around the world, Peru reaffirms its commitment to a development agenda aimed at delivering tangible benefits for its citizens and contributing to regional well-being.

"At a time of global uncertainty, platforms like this remind us of the importance of collective action and strategic vision," Peruvian diplomat emphasized.

Meetings

During his participation in the forum, Ambassador Vasquez held meetings with Boao Forum Secretary-General, Chinese Ambassador Zhang Jun, and South Korean Vice Minister of International Economy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Kim Hee-sang.

They exchanged views on Peru's collaboration with South Korea and China to ensure continuity of the South American country's achievements in future APEC editions.

Peru hosted APEC for the third time in 2024, following the 2008 and 2016 editions.
