Social media is abuzz over a video of a small village in Chhattisgarh, where an extraordinary natural spectacle has mesmerised onlookers—an apparent upstream flow of a stream, denying gravity. This captivating anomaly has seized the imagination of many after content creator Rajat Jethi shared the phenomenon in Mainpar village through a compelling video shared on Tuesday.
In the video, Jethi shows something very surprising: water in the stream is flowing upwards instead of downwards. He makes it even more interesting by placing a leaf in the stream, and instead of floating along with the water, it moves against the current, which is not what we expect.
Since being shared, the video has garnered more than 3.7 million likes. Many took to the comments section to express their views.
An Instagram user commented, “India is not for Newton.”
However, numerous individuals countered, suggesting that the phenomenon might simply be a natural optical illusion formed by the surrounding hills. Making this point, a person said, “Its illusion due to mountains nearby.. and topography.” Another individual noted, “That’s not possible. It’s an optical illusion and it happens in multiple locations.”
One user also drew parallels to Ladakh’s renowned magnetic hill situated on the Leh-Kargil-Srinagar National Highway, highlighting similarities and said, “It’s an illusion bro just like Ladakh magnetic hill.”
