Norway will provide NOK 20 million in humanitarian aid to India due to the corona pandemic, Foreign Minister Ine Eriksen Søreide told Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK).

She informed the channel that the money would be channeled through the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Red Cross.

India has been particularly hard hit by its second coronavirus wave. Hospitals are overcrowded, there is a shortage of oxygen, and the Indian Ministry of Health has reported over 2,700 corona deaths daily this week.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs tightened its travel advice. It now advises against all travel to India and the country’s neighboring countries and Iraq.

On Tuesday this week, the first shipment of medical equipment to the country arrived from the UK.

The United States, Germany, Israel, France, and Pakistan have also promised to help India.
