ANDERSON, Ind. — A Muncie woman was arrested this week in Madison County after allegedly leading authorities on a chase in a stolen car.

Sara Irene Cooper, 23, was charged Tuesday in Madison Circuit Court 1 with resisting law enforcement, auto theft and possession of meth.

An Anderson police officer on Monday pulled over Cooper, driving a Ford Escape, after receiving a report of “suspicious activity” on East 59th Street.

After a records check indicated the SUV was apparently stolen, the officer wrote, Cooper “started the vehicle and sped off at a high rate of speed.”

A chase ensued northbound on Scatterfield Road that saw Cooper “disregarding all traffic control signals.”

The midday pursuit was stopped for reasons of public safety.

Cooper is set to stand trial Aug. 23 In Delaware Circuit Court 4 on burglary and theft charges filed last May.

In that case, the Muncie woman and an alleged accomplice are accused of breaking into A-1 Investments, 2280 W. Kilgore Ave.

Arrested at the scene, Cooper and the other woman tried to persuade Muncie police they were volunteers with the American Red Cross, sent to clean storage units and “separate out valuables.”
